Oliver Gilbert
Oliver G. Gilbert III is an attorney and former prosecutor who served as mayor of Miami Gardens from 2012 to 2020 and was elected to the Miami-Dade County Commission (District 1) in 2020, chairing the commission from 2020 to 2024. Retiring U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson endorsed him as her successor in June 2026. He won the seven-way Aug. 18, 2026 Democratic primary with about 34.5%, edging state Sen. Shevrin Jones (about 32%), with Kendrick Meek Jr. (about 17%), Rudolph Moise, Jean Monestime, Marshall Davis Sr. and Roderick Vereen trailing, despite more than $2 million in spending against him. He also serves in a leadership role on the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami host committee.
