Martin County School Board, District 4

Anthony "Tony" Anderson

NonpartisanRetired educator; former Martin County School Board member

Anderson served on the Martin County School Board from 2018 to 2022 and spent about three decades in education. He has said his 2022 loss to Amy Pritchett was tied to his vote requiring students to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. He took about 41% of the Aug. 18, 2026 primary vote and faces Pritchett again in the Nov. 3 runoff.

Education & school choice Leans disagree· stated position

Statement: "Public money should follow students to private, charter or home schools (universal school vouchers)."

Anderson argues that the district is losing money as students leave for other options and has questioned the effect of the state's school-choice funding on public schools.

"Funding is a problem now. We're losing funding. It's almost like it's designed to hurt public schools"

Library and classroom materials Leans disagree· stated position

Statement: "Parents' objections should be enough to pull a book or lesson from a school, even when other families want it kept."

On library challenges, Anderson favors a balanced review committee that brings in broader community input rather than acting on a single objection.

Teacher and staff pay Mixed / neutral· stated position

Statement: "Raising teacher and staff pay should be the district's top budget priority, even if other spending has to be cut."

Anderson's focus on teacher retention is on working conditions rather than pay; he says the core problem is the support and respect teachers get from administration.

"The real problem is that they don't really have the support that they need from administration, the respect for their dedication"
